South By Southwest Music Festival and Conference

The list of acts that have been confirmed thus far for the 2006 South By Southwest Music Festival and Conference has been announced, and once again, it's a humdinger. Look for plenty of bands from Europe, Japan, New Zealand and Australia, as well as sets from up-and-comers such as Animal Collective, Art Brut, We Are Scientists and Hot Chip. Austin acts such as the Sword, At All Cost, Voxtrot and Sound Team are on the list. Expect veteran indie rock from Echo and the Bunnymen, Killing Joke and Savage Republic, country from Bobby Bare and Jessi Colter, soul from Bettye LaVette and comedy from Andy Dick. Nearly 850 acts have been confirmed for the music portion of the festival, which will be March 15-19. The full list can be found at Austin360.com. — Joe Gross

I've heard nothing but rave reviews from family and friends, coast to coast about Bettye LaVette. Can't wait to see her. Why isn't a great talent like her ever seen on TV? I'm told she did Letterman, so what's wrong with Leno and the rest? They fall all over themselves to interview and feature no-talents like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie...how did show biz reach this new low?
