Bruntland Commission 1983

Bruntland Commission 1983 The Bruntland Commission - the World Commission on Environment and Development (WCEDnamed after its Norwegian chairperson, Gro Harland Bruntland - was formed.23 commissioners from 22 countriesrepresenting developed and developing countries and the communist block. to investigate links between the issues of environment and development that were at the time uncertain but strongly suspectedheld meetings on every continent with people from all walks of life and presented its final report,Bruntland report Our Common Future, to the UN General Assembly in 1987. convinced the UN General Assembly that a major summit was now required to address all these issues - this was the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development - the Earth Summit, held in Rio.Some people now object to the term "sustainable development" as an umbrella term since it implies continued development, and insist that it should be reserved only for development activities.

Run the Hardest

“You ought to run the hardest when you feel the worst. Never let the other guy know you’re down.” Pg. 188

(from the book entitled "I'm the Coach Who Has Never Ran a Race in My Life")

Pennies from Heaven

Remeber this every time you pass that little penny in the parking lot. I always thought that it was for good luck, but I love this version better. I found a penny today Just laying on the ground. But it's not just a penny, this little coin I've found. Found pennies come from heaven, That's what my Grandpa told me. He said Angels toss the down. Oh,how I loved that story He said when an Angel misses you, They toss a penny down. Sometimes just to cheer you up To make a smile out of your frown. So,don't paa (sic) by that penny, When you're feeling blue. It may be a penny from heaven, that an Angel's tossed to you. So now pass this on to the peoplewho you caare about and who you feelare angels to you.I just did. An angel is now watching over you.Have a great day!

(maybe they can throw some large denomination bills down too)

HD DVR Product

Posted Nov 12, 2005, 4:57 AM ET by Martin Conaghan
Filed under: Telewest, News According to Digital Spy, Telewest has announced plans to release a "TV Drive" -- a new type of HD DVR product -- in the first quarter of 2006.The new service will cost subscribers an extra £10 to £15 per month, and the set-top box itself will contain three tuners and a 160 GB hard drive, allowing around 80 hours of recording. The news will undoubtedly prompt an early release of Sky's proposed HD Sky box, which was discussed on PVR Wire back in August, but has yet to be released.

Purchasing the DVD

I hope you all are considering purchasing the DVD if you watch the film and enjoy it as I am.This is not a major studio production so less sales impacts them much more and if they get enough funds, maybe they will make more such movies. Not to sound preachy - just some thoughts I had while waiting for this to DL.Someone is seeding this? I'm not showing one, thanks to DHT I'm still getting it though.

Anti-Retroviral (ARV) Treatment

Anti-Retroviral (ARV) Treatment in Developing Countries:Questions of Economics, Equity and Ethics Background materials and outputs from an on-line conference hosted by the AIDS Economics web site / Sponsored by UNAIDS and The World BankAnti-retroviral (ARV) drugs have the potential to dramatically improve the health and extend the lives of some people with HIV/AIDS. Yet the high cost and demanding clinical requirements of these drugs put them out of reach of the vast majority of people with HIV. This problem is especially acute in developing countries, where HIV infection levels are high and public resources are extremely scarce. Views on this problem vary widely. Some argue that governments and the international community should do everything possible to pay for ARV treatment for all who need it; others argue that such treatments are primarily a "private good" and should not be publicly funded. Meanwhile, policymakers in developing countries face mounting public pressure to pay for these very expensive drugs. This special focus area of the AIDS Economics web

(replace the xxxxxx with the name of a common fruit)

The Tragedy of the Commons

The tragedy of the commons is an analogy used to illustrate the conflict for resources between individual interests and the common good. The term was coined and popularized by Garrett Hardin in his 1968 Science essay "The Tragedy of the Commons". While the original article was primarily concerned with human population growth, Hardin also focused on the use of resources such as the atmosphere and oceans.
